Jef (Kate Kennedy), a 32 year old Unit Production Manager, has given a decade of her young life to the film industry when devastating events force her to confront her past and reevaluate her future. Haar is a thoughtful and emotional drama that explores themes of trust and love and asks questions about the real cost of the choices we make and their impact on our future.
The film had its World Premiere at the BFI London Film Festival in 2023 and was selected by Kristy Matheson, the festival director, as one of her Letterboxd 'Four To See at the Festival This Year' and its intentionally 'low-fi' qualities drew comparisons to the raw, intimate, and improvisational style of early Jim Jarmusch and John Cassavetes.
Produced on a budget of £120,000 and filmed in 18 days in Budapest. The film has a unique selling point in that it is one of the first dramatic, narrative feature films to have been photographed on Super8mm. Using cameras that were over 60 years old required a new approach that pushed the creativity of all involved in the films production.
It marked the first collaboration between Ben and Kate as producers and it was their experience making this that cemented the foundations of WASTE OF SPACE FILMS.
