The film follows John Finch (Christian McKay), a middle-aged, formerly successful classical pianist who flees to the idyllic pastoral town of Entrecasteaux in Provence. Healing from a collapsed marriage and a stalled career, John seeks solace in a rural cottage while waiting for his much younger lover, Sophia (Charlotte Vega), to join him. However, their picturesque, sun-drenched life is disrupted by the arrival of Peter (Harry Macqueen), a young historian and mysterious stranger whose presence unravels hidden tensions and secrets.
Produced on a budget of £50,000 and filmed in 15 days in the South of France and London, England, Provenance was released through Curzon Home Cinema in June 2020 following a successful run at festivals around the world.
This was the project that really paved the way for the WASTE OF SPACE STUDIOS model - working with the very best young cast and crew, a true collaborative effort. Many of the crew have gone on to achieve great success. Camera Assistant Molly Manning-Walker is a cinematographer and directed the feature film How To Have Sex which won the "Un Certain Regard" at the Cannes Film Festival.
The film screened at the East End Film Festival, New York International Film Festival and received a special presentations screening at the Sorrento Film Festival. It won Best Feature and Best Supporting Actor at the Madrid International Film Festival.
